When you need a few days of pure relax, Tioman Island is the perfect place. It’s a nature reserve off the east coast of Peninsular Malaysia, in the South China Sea ringed by beaches. It is 1 hour flight from Singapore. For the neighbours, the island is known for its dive sites, which have corals, sea fans and sea sponges, as well as shipwrecks. The island is covered in tropical rainforests, home to butterflies, lizards and monkeys.
We’ve stayed at Berjaya Tioman Resort, the largest hotel on Pulau Tioman, situated on a vast 200-acre ground, a tropical paradise with miles of golden sandy beaches, clear waters rich with marine life and surrounding misty mountains. A modern four star resort, there are large facilities and amenities provided, including a ballroom, function halls, dive center, spa, 18-hole golf course, outdoor team building circuit, swimming pools and various restaurants.
Accommodation consists of quaint chalets and duplex structures inspired by traditional village architecture, perched on stilts along the beachfront or garden. Suitable for a complete family vacation, the hotel has a free transfer service from the airport or jetty at Tekek.
There are a lot of activities you can do, from diving, snorkelling, trekking in the jungle or as we did just simply relax by the beach from morning to evening every day. You wake up in the morning, have delicious breakfast and lay down and take a nap or read a book by the beach under your umbrella. Wake up, do some snorkelling, have a good lunch and back to nap time by the beach. Another 15 to 20 minutes of snorkelling and time for dinner. Next day repeat. It was really a week of pure relaxation. After a long year of work, at least a week of doing nothing is what we all need.
