Last year, for our getaway week, we went in Koh Lanta, one of Thailand’s most beautiful islands, located just off the coast of Krabi. Its long coastline has nearly a dozen beaches, some considered the finest in the country, and each one with its own charm and atmosphere.
The tourist season in Koh Lanta runs from October through April and we traveled in August. It is the so called Green Season from May to October, when daily rainfall usually only lasts a few hours. But honestly I think it rained only a few hours in the whole week we stayed there. I always look for a relaxing and quiet place, so that we can recharge our batteries, and the low season was perfect for us.
There is no airport on the island and the nearest airport is Krabi Airport. The island is accessible by speedboat, minivan and ferry but they operate mostly in high season. In low season is not accessible by speedboat because of the rough sea conditions. During this time, you’ll have to take a minivan and cross via ferry. The resort we booked provided the minivan pick-up in the airport so problem resolved 🙂
The minivan took a ferry from the mainland to Koh Lanta Noi, then used the new bridge to cross onto Koh Lanta Yai (the most developed of the two). The ferry ride was short and enjoyable.
We have stayed at Twin Lotus Resort and Spa, located at 1.5 hr drive from Krabi Airport. Situated on 12 acres of landscaped gardens, The Twin Lotus Resort sits directly on a 3-kilometer stretch of white sand beach in the Klong Dao section of Koh Lanta. In low season is just perfect, quiet and cosy. A very relaxing environment with amazing sea views.
After a few days of relaxation, we rented a scooter and drove around, enjoying the peaceful and amazing island.
If you are lucky with the weather, low season is in many ways the perfect time to visit Koh Lanta – prices are cheap (the hotels that stay open slash their prices by up to half of those in high season) and the beaches are completely deserted. If you are looking for a “getaway from it all” holiday in a place that will be very happy to see you, Koh Lanta during May to October would be just the perfect place for you.
Looks very plush!
I love Koh Lanta and your images are beautiful …Thailand has so many beautiful places and yes the low season is the best time to visit as tropical showers soon disappear and out comes the sun 🙂
