Hello December

And just like that, December is here!

Despite all the problems and COVID-19 situation, I can’t believe how fast this year has gone.

When I was a kid, December was a very exciting month.

Beside the Santa Clause that used to bring me the Christmas tree and the gifts under it, but only if I’ve behaved all year round (luckily he came regardless of it 🤪), December meant also lots of sleighing and plays in the snow with my friends.

December was a magical month.

Growing up it became just a month like all the other winter months. No more snow, just dark cold and wet days.

For the last 8 years I’ve spent most of the Christmases in Singapore at 30 degrees C, adios Christmas magic.

Well, at least I still have my childhood winter sweet memories.

Now, I’ll just wait for some days off work, I’ll watch some classic Christmas movies and I’ll enjoy a cold beer on the beach 🏝

Do you like December? Do you feel the Christmas’s magic?

Christmas Tree in Singapore

Wish you all a wonderful December!

Never miss a post!

Have you put your tree up this year? My husband does ours on Thansgiving day. We decorate together, it’s our litle tradition. What traditions do you carry over to Singapore?

    1. popsiclesociety Avatar

No, we did not do the tree yet….honestly I don’t know if to do it or not…from when we’re here we did it a few times but really can’t feel Christmas at all…🤪
The only tradition we still keep here is the lunch with friends which this year will be very reduced…cooking and enjoying a good time with friends…that’s pretty much it!

      1. Looking for the Light Avatar

Maybe you need the spirit more than ever this year. It is sadi many people are buying and putting up trees much earlier to help brighten their spirit. You can make one of your grandmas favorite dish or desert! I would love to have her cookbook. But she cooks everything from scratch and that’s is a lot of work, as you show on the site. Have a great day.

      2. popsiclesociety Avatar

We’ll see…maybe in the end we’ll take out our Christmas tree 🎄 😉
Yes, my grandma used to cook everything from scratch….actually she did not know other ways of cooking 😃 and it was always super delicious! I’ll try to enjoy some cooking during my week off from work 😉
        Wish you a wonderful day!

      3. Looking for the Light Avatar

Have you thought about publishing your gramdma’s cookook?

      4. popsiclesociety Avatar

No, I never thought about it…even because currently it is at home at my dad…but I can ask to send it to me 😉 That will be great! Who knows what other wonders I can find in it 😉 Thank you ☺️

      5. Looking for the Light Avatar

Many a great secrets! My granny kept all types of things in her cookbook.

    Yes!

    Christmas used to be
    a magical time
    in the 40s and 50s
    and was
    all around me
    In decorations
    glorious to be seen.

    But not so today!

    Yes!

    Today
    It’s only
    the best time
    of the year
    for making
    more and more
    end of year
    dimes!

    1. popsiclesociety Avatar

I see I’m not alone in not feeling Christmas’s magic…🎄
But still we can enjoy some good food and have a good time 😉

I can’t believe how slow this year has gone. December means snow and I’m still on crutches. Grrrrrr.

Now tell me, what are the temperatures there now?

    1. popsiclesociety Avatar

      Crutches? I think I’ve missed something 😖
      Be careful!
Here right now are 32 degrees C and is almost 6pm….today was really hot ☀️ 🥵

      1. Blogging_with_Bojana Avatar

Oh yes. I’ve been on crutches since June – ligament rupture, bone bruise/inflammation. Don’t ask me what my summer was like. It’s been pretty prison-like.
(Lucky you, we’re already in the -)

      2. popsiclesociety Avatar

Oh my….I’m very sorry and I hope you’ll get better soon! Now maybe is just the time to take it slow and easy!

  9. ptrikha15 Avatar

Have a great December 2020. It is not like the normal years.
Yet, we still can look to some festive times.
That X-mas Tree looks so huge and marvelous!

    1. popsiclesociety Avatar

Thank you very much! Yes, we still can have some good time and delicious food 😉😋
Singapore is full of amazing Christmas trees, shopping malls are all festive, we just need a little bit of snow ❄️ 😉

  10. Anna Avatar

Christmas must be my favorite time of the year. I love all the decorations, sparkles, good food, presents, Christmas Markets, simply all of it. But I think it would be hard for me to get into the Christmas spirit with 30 degrees, too. How would I be able to drink mulled wine and mulled cider? 🙂

    1. popsiclesociety Avatar

Hahaha…yep…definitely no mulled wine or mulled cider….not even hot chocolate 🤪
Christmas here is a good cold beer on the beach 🍻 😉

Not feeling it this year. First time in my life I’m not putting up a tree. Everything is too flat and we can’t get together. No shopping, lunches, get-togethers. Pretty much nothing. So just skipping it.

    1. popsiclesociety Avatar

Definitely is a difficult year! Tree or not, at leats we can have some good time in the kitchen and delicious food 😉😋

I’ve always loved December cause I love Christmas. but I’ve always wished that it could be moved to January, because there’s not enough time between it and Thanksgiving! (Here in the US) so it always ends up as a blur, no matter how I try to take it day to day! Happy December!

    1. popsiclesociety Avatar

      Two big celebrations 🤩
Yeah, maybe would not be bad to have Christmas in January 🎄 😉
Have a lovely month and enjoy it day by day!

  18. anne leueen Avatar

A week abo I actually considered not putting up a tree this year. But I did not stick to that and the tree went up Saturday. We had a magical snow storm last night. The world looks beautiful dressed in white. This Christmas we will not be doing our usual breakfast for friends and family and the big turkey dinner for family. It will just be my husband and me. And that’s ok. Our son and his fiancé are in London and are not going anywhere. Our daughter and her family are two hours from here but we don’t want to go to them and be the spreaders of Covid. So we will do WhatsApp Videos and raise glasses to our family in absentia. 🎄

    1. popsiclesociety Avatar

I’m still considering if to put up the tree or not…🎄 After so many years living overseas, we’re used to be just two of us for Christmas so that’s not a big issue….the only problem is that with 30 degrees C outside cannot feel at all any Christmas magic 🤪
The world is beautiful dresses in white indeed! That’s magical ❄️ 😍
Enjoy it Anne! I’m sure we still can have some good time despite everything 😉

  19. singingandsauerkraut Avatar

Growing up in Ireland I rarely had a white Christmas. This year I’m in the south of Germany and there is snow in abundance. Most of my family are still in Ireland but I can’t travel with current restrictions so I have my white Christmas but no family (apart from my fiancée) to celebrate with. The irony is cruel!

    1. popsiclesociety Avatar

Having a white Christmas is magical ❄️ ⛄️
Celebrating Christmas with your half is always wonderful 💕
      Enjoy it! I’m sure you’ll have a wonderful time🎄
