Polpette al sugo

Polpette al sugo are well known as meatballs in tomato sauce and are a classic traditional dish called “piatto della nonna” (grandma’s dish) loved by adults and kids as well. Only a few ingredients but a very tasty meal.

To make the meatballs you’ll need:

  • lean ground beef
  • breadcrumbs
  • grated Parmesan cheese
  • egg
  • chopped parsley
  • salt and pepper

You mix everything well and form the meatballs. Add a little bit of flour so that you can keep them separated on a sheet of paper.

Or if you don’t have time, you can simply buy the meatballs from your butcher or supermarket as I did 😊

Once you have your meatballs, in a large saucepan over medium heat, add extra virgin olive oil and toss in the meatballs. Cook them on both sides for a couple of minutes then add the tomato sauce, a little bit of water, salt and pepper and dry oregano if you like it. Cook for about 15 minutes over low heat and your polpette al sugo are ready to be enjoyed while they are still hot 😋
