Two years ago, for our annual week of relaxation, we’ve choose Cambodia. I wanted a trip where to combine both relaxation and cultural and Siem Reap was a great choice.
Siem Reap is a resort town in northwestern Cambodia, the gateway to the ruins of Angkor, the seat of the Khmer kingdom from the 9th–15th centuries. Angkor’s vast complex of intricate stone buildings includes preserved Angkor Wat, the main temple, which is pictured on Cambodia’s flag. Giant, mysterious faces are carved into the Bayon Temple at Angkor Thom. Ta Prohm where you can see how the nature is claiming back its territory and the temple ruins are overgrown with trees.
As a low-key but modern gateway to the archaeological site, Siem Reap has boutique hotels, large resorts and numerous galleries and spas.
We’ve stayed at Navutu Dreams Resort & Wellness Retreat, an intimate and quiet luxury resort, a tropical island dream.
We had also our personal tuk tuk shuttle to the city center and temples, 12 hours daily.
For our surprise, the Old French Quarter and Pub Street offers trendy restaurants and a lot of really delicious food, from local delicacies to really good pizza and pasta. We never expected to eat so good Italian food in Siem Reap.
The peak travel season is December to March. The weather is tropical, with a rainy season from June to October. We’ve stayed there in August and it never rained. Furthermore, I’ve never seen in my life a such blue sky like in Siem Reap.
Simple wonderful! A magical place!
