My Literary Journey Continues – Book #5 of 2025

Hello my dear readers,

Here I am, with my fifth book read this year!

My book # 5 of 2025 was The Rose Arbor by Rhys Bowen

Book Summary:

London, 1968. Liz Houghton, an obituary writer stuck in a stagnant role at a London newspaper, sees an opportunity to finally make it into the newsroom when a young girl vanishes, capturing the city’s attention. Determined to break the story, she has an inside connection—her best friend, Marisa, a police officer working the case.

Following Marisa to Dorset, Liz stumbles upon a chilling pattern. More than twenty years earlier, three young girls went missing while being evacuated from London. One was later found murdered near a railway line, while the other two were never seen again.

As Liz digs deeper, she becomes fixated on the abandoned village of Tydeham, a place requisitioned by the military during the war and left in ruins. But what could possibly connect the missing girls to this forgotten village? And why does Liz feel an eerie sense of familiarity with a place she’s never visited before?

My Review:

By now, you probably know how much I love a story that plays out across two timelines. This book had me hooked with its intriguing and engaging plot. The writing is easy but solid, and the investigative twists kept me turning the pages. The story unfolds at a steady pace, pulling me in and keeping me invested right up to the satisfying conclusion. A great book and a real page-turner—I thoroughly enjoyed it!

Now onto my sixth book of the year—let’s see what surprises it has in store!

Happy Readings!

It sounds like the Rose Arbour is a captivating and highly engrossing historical fiction/mystery. I really like the sound of the premise with the missing girl case, the journalist angle and the possible connection to a couple of WWII cold cases. Thanks for the wonderful review, my friend, and have a good day 🙂 Aiva xx
