Book Summary:
Set in Minnesota during the summer of 1977, the tight-knit community’s teenagers engage in activities like late-night swimming parties at the quarry, attending the county fair, and exploring the city’s underground tunnels. However, for best friends Heather and Brenda, the season takes a dark turn.
Harboring a shared secret from a mysterious encounter in the shadows, Heather and Brenda are determined to keep it to themselves. Their resolve is tested when a friend goes missing, marking the second disappearance in a week. Despite the alarming pattern, the authorities show reluctance to investigate.
Heather’s fear intensifies as she suspects a connection between the missing girls and the unsettling incident she and Brenda witnessed. Determined to unravel the truth, she embarks on a solo quest for answers, only to discover that the familiar faces in her community hide hidden depths. The police, the boys from the quarry, and even her own parents may not be who they appear to be. Despite the risks, Heather continues her relentless pursuit because she believes the lives of those missing girls hang in the balance.
As tension mounts, Heather also realizes she could be the next target, compelling her to confront the unsettling mysteries surrounding her seemingly idyllic community.
My Review:
If you’re a fan of thrillers, then The Quarry Girls by Jess Lourey is a book that you must not miss. Even though it has been years since I read one of these intense books, I couldn’t resist picking up this page-turner. From the very first page, I was completely horrified, unable to put the book down. The author does not pussyfoot around the darker aspects of life and keeps you hooked with every turn of events. However, after experiencing such a thrilling ride, I feel like I need to take a break before diving into something like this again. Overall, The Quarry Girls is a fantastic thriller that delivers a truly gripping and terrifying experience.
Some of My Favorite Paragraphs:

“In our neighborhood, the problem wasn’t the person who made the mistake; it was the person who acknowledged the truth.”

“Men in packs can do terrible things, things they wouldn’t have the hate to do alone. It’s no excuse, just something you should know.”
“You’ll recognize those men, the ones inclined to their dark side, because they’ll expect you to carry their load. They’ll smother your anger with their pain, they’ll make you doubt yourself, and they’ll tell you they love you the whole time. Some do it big, like Ed, but most do it in quiet steps, like your father.”
I can’t wait to dive into my next book and see where my literary journey takes me next!
Happy Readings!
