5 Foods That Are Super Healthy

Yes, I must admit, I am quite focused on eating healthy foods and having a balanced and nutritious diet. And the good part for me is that I have never considered it a diet but a lifestyle.

Most people when they hear the word “diet” they are very reluctant and think that’s an impossible thing, something very strict, something that they can never follow. “Oh and what you eat? Salads?” is something that I hear often when we’re discussing about healthy food.

Well, healthy foods are not only salads, and as long as it’s considered a “diet” and not a lifestyle, I understand that for lots of people it can be difficult.

But if you want just for curiosity to understand more about healthy foods, let’s take 5 examples of foods that are super healthy and you could really enjoy eating.

Never miss a post:

1.Eggs

Eggs are one of the few foods that should be classified as “superfoods”, as are among the most nutritious foods on the planet.

No, don’t smirk at me, I know that eggs have gotten a bad reputation because the yolks are high in cholesterol, but believe me, cholesterol isn’t that simple. Cholesterol plays a very important function in our body, being essential to every cell membrane, and because it’s so important, our body has evolved elaborate ways to ensure that it always has enough available. Because getting cholesterol from the diet isn’t always an option, our liver produces enough to meet our body’s needs and when we eat cholesterol-rich foods such as eggs, our liver starts producing less to keep cholesterol levels from becoming excessively high. So basically, the more cholesterol we eat, the less our body produces and the science is very clear that up to 3 whole eggs per day are perfectly safe for healthy people. At the same time, eating eggs leads also to elevated levels of HDL the “good” cholesterol, which is linked to a lower risk of many diseases. Eggs are also an excellent source of protein and contain all the essential amino acids that humans need, with a single large egg containing six grams of it and proteins are the main building blocks of the human body, being used to make all sorts of tissues and molecules that serve both structural and functional purposes.

Eggs being also low in calories, cheap, easy to prepare and that goes with almost any food and taste, are pretty much a nature’s perfect food.

2. Fruits

Fruits are among the world’s most popular healthy and nutritious foods, very easy to incorporate into your diet because they require little to no preparation.

Let’s see some of the fruits to not miss: blueberries, the most powerful sources of antioxidants in the world; oranges, well known for their vitamin C content are also high in fiber and antioxidants; apples, are high in fiber, vitamin C, and numerous antioxidants and because are very filling, make the perfect snack if you find yourself hungry between meals.

Of course the list of healthy fruits continues with strawberries, bananas, cherries, grapefruits, kiwi, mango, peaches, pears, pineapple and so many more.

I like them all. What is your favourite fruit?

3. Veggies

Vegetables are low in calories but full of nutrients.

Let’s see a few: carrots, high in carotene antioxidants, and loaded with nutrients like fiber and vitamin K; kale, incredibly high in fiber, vitamins C and K, and a number of other nutrients; bell peppers, are colourful, super crunchy and sweet, but also a great source of antioxidants and vitamin C.

Luckily we have plenty of veggies to choose from like: asparagus, cauliflower, broccoli, cucumber, artichokes, zucchini, eggplants…

There’s really a wide variety available, so you can enjoy many different types every day.

Are you a veggie eater? I can’t go one day without veggies.

4. Nuts and seeds

They may have more calories, but eaten in the right quantities, the nuts and seeds are crunchy, filling, and loaded with important nutrients that many people don’t get enough of, including magnesium and vitamin E.

Some nuts and seeds that I love: walnuts, highly nutritious and loaded with fiber and various vitamins and minerals; macadamia nuts, rich in nutrients and antioxidants, I love their butter-like flavor and creamy texture; and my absolute favourite hazelnuts, rich in nutrients, antioxidants, and have a high content of protein, fats, vitamins and minerals.

5. Dairy

I know not everyone is a huge fan of dairy, or others cannot tolerate them, but dairy products are an important source of nutrients. Cheese, milk and yogurt are high in vitamins, minerals, healthy fats and are the best dietary sources of calcium.

Do you eat dairy products? Which one is your favourite?

Are you a cheese lover?

So here you have it, 5 foods that are very common in our everyday life and are super healthy, packed with vitamins and antioxidants.

To not forget that portions are always very important and as I always say, having a healthy and balanced diet means enjoying a little bit of everything.

Do you enjoy a little bit of everything?

Enjoyed this post very much! I’m a big fan of dairy and nuts. Although I’m vegetarian, I eat egg occasionally (once a month or even rarely). So, yeah, eggetarian is a more proper term.
Coming to nuts, what do you think about soaking almonds (and other nuts) overnight to remove the tannin layer? Is it absolutely necessary to do so?

    1. popsiclesociety Avatar

I’m glad you like it! Soaking almonds overnight may reduce the bitter flavor but evidence is mixed. For me I think roasting them is the perfect way to enjoy them…are not bitter and are crunchy and toasted 😉😋

A fine advocacy. Of the dairy products I don’t take milk in my coffee; cheese is really my favourite, but I eat less of it as the years go by.

Thank you Derrick! I love cheese too 🧀😋

Until recently I had always heard eggs weren’t that healthy. I’m glad I learned differently because I love them! I eat them almost every day, sometimes even for lunch. 🙂

    1. popsiclesociety Avatar

Hi Michelle, yes, the eggs were a controversial subject for quite a while, luckily more studies have been done and was discovered that are really the best source of proteins 😉 Enjoy them but remember to not exaggerate 😉

Of this listing, my main go to ingredient now is actually the Egg, l eat perhaps 40 a week. I can no longer eat nuts, can no longer digest any dairy, l am restricted to the fruit intake l can digest and have now developed a problem with fructose and sadly these days l can only digest four vegetables.types – everything else is off the diet. Good post Ribana.

    1. popsiclesociety Avatar

That’s so very sad Rory! I’m still wondering from what it started all these problems? Simply because for a while you did not eat these foods and now if you want to eat them you can’t digest them anymore? Something else must be there 🤔

  15. aguycalledbloke Avatar

It’s something to do with my digestive system – asto what no one can tell me – all they say is ‘There’s nothing remarkable but there is a problem’ – translating to – it’s not cancer or a disease that is killing you. Once they award that, they consider their job done and leave it alone. Over the years l have done everything possible to reduce the issues and to a certain degree l have, l have made the problems diluted and lessened my pains and discomforts. I am now left with a very bland unexciting diet – boring food types, that are for survival rather than enjoyment.

    1. popsiclesociety Avatar

It doesn’t have to be a cancer or a disease…it can be just something that it goes to interact with what you eat creating you all these problems. They should at least do all the tests to understand the problem so that you can have a normal diet…😓

  16. Lander7 Avatar

Very surprising information on eggs, I only eat them about 1 a week, so now I feel confident to bump that up a bit, thanks!

    1. popsiclesociety Avatar

I know they have a bad reputation but we should really look at the facts 😉 Enjoy them as are really a superfood 😉 🥚

This is such a great list. I love love love fruits! I can’t imagine life without them. I tried letting them go to eat keto and it was the worst. I did lose weight but I just didn’t feel light. If that makes sense. Fruits just make me feel like my body is saying thankyou at a cellular level. Another biggie in my diet are nuts and seeds. I eat chia, flax, and hemp seeds every day in the morning. I put them either in my overnight oats or in a smoothie. When it comes to nuts, I always have to watch myself because I can devour 1000 calories easily if I’m not mindful. Black walnuts are my favorite. When I was a kid I used to sit on my grandmas porch and crack the shells between two bricks. 😀

    1. popsiclesociety Avatar

Thank you very much for stopping by! I’m very glad you like it! I love fruits and nuts too! Are part of my daily meals and I couldn’t live without them 😋 My body is demanding them 😁 I’m the same with nuts too…I better take just a handful and put away the rest, otherwise I can’t stop eating them 😁
A great memory ☺️ and I have it too and then I used to have all my hands black from the walnuts 😁
