What are the 4 classifications of tableware?

Hello my dear readers,

How is your weekend so far? Usually during the weekend, since I have more free time and being a food lover, I like to cook or bake something to enjoy it with my hubby 🙂

For me, setting the table for every meal is very important! I feel the experience and joy of eating is not complete without the proper tableware.

Do you know that tableware can be classified in 4 categories based on their usage?

The tableware, or also known as dinnerware, or crockery in Britain, includes plates, cutlery and glassware and are that simple yet stylish items that transform your everyday meal into a beautiful experience. Tableware can be made of ceramic, glass, earthenware, porcelain or stoneware and sometimes plastic.

Based on their usage, tableware can be classified into four types: serveware, dinnerware, flatware or silverware and drinkware or glassware. Whether they are used for special events or just for our daily meals, there are classes of tableware to suit every occasion and every need.

All the serving bowls, salad bowls, dessert bowls, platters, gravy boats, casseroles, soup pots, tea pots, even serving spoon, ladle and any other dishes or other utensils that are used to bring food to the table falls under the category of serveware, because as their name suggest, it is the tableware used for serving.

The plates used to serve individual portions and the ones from which we eat are called dinnerware, also known as Chinaware, and consist of a variety of plates, from basic plate to bowls or different shapes and sizes of plates.

The cutlery, also known as silverware, which consists of spoons, forks and knives that may vary in size and shape are considered flatware.

And all the items from which we can drink such as glasses, mugs or cups are part of drinkware category.
