Coffee or tea?

Hello my dear readers,

“If this is coffee, please bring me some tea; but if this is tea, please bring me some coffee.”
– Abraham Lincoln, 16th US President

Are you a coffee or a tea drinker?

Did you know that coffee and tea are among the most commonly consumed nonalcoholic beverages worldwide?

While the origins of coffee and tea are unclear, it is safe to say that mankind has been drinking both for at least 1,000 years. Can you imagine? 1,000 years!

The experts around the world agreed that coffee contains more caffeine than tea, even though it depends on how the beverages are prepared.

Caffeine, which works as a stimulant, is naturally found in both.

If you are from the category “first coffee” in the morning then think again, as researchers has found out that daily coffee drinkers who were tricked into drinking decaffeinated coffee still scored the same on tests as caffeinated coffee drinkers.

So associating coffee with energy is not really working, is only an impression.

But let’s see some of their benefits:

6 Coffee Benefits

  1. contains antioxidants, though significantly less than tea
  2. is believed to reduce the risk of type 2 diabetes
  3. plays a part in protecting the liver and reduces the risk of cirrhosis
  4. contains key nutrients such as potassium, manganese, magnesium, and niacin
  5. is a known diuretic
  6. good for the heart, and protects against Parkinson’s disease and Alzheimer’s disease

6 Tea Benefits

  1. loaded with antioxidants
  2. fight inflammation and prevent blood vessels from hardening
  3. is associated with anti-aging
  4. known to boost brain health
  5. regular tea drinkers are likely to have higher bone density levels and slower rates of bone erosion
  6. good for the heart, lowering the bad cholesterol

But their benefits do not stop here.

See below some funny facts between coffee drinkers and tea drinkers.

However, according to retail sales data seems that coffee is the winner.

People’s favourite hot beverage around the world is: COFFEE!

Well, I drink them both 😉

And back to my question: are you a coffee or a tea drinker?

Thank you all for reading.

  1. I’m not truly into “tea” but will drink it if that’s all on offer. I do prefer coffee but I also love hot chocolate of a good variety of say Belgian hot chocolate but even generic chocolate is okay. My most favourite mocchachino a mix of hot chocolate and coffee. Something I’ve been indulging whilst at home…

The iced chocolate at Rampants Cafe is a big “i’m missing that” they don’t just do a cold hot chocolate with ice but cold hot chocolate with chocolate syrup, icecream, whipped cream – divine. Of course, they are currently closed…

But I can’t drink a lot of any of it…so I don’t have any particular time of day or reason for…

    1. Back home I used to love a good hot chocolate in winter time but from when I’m here I try to avoid it with 30 degrees C outside 🤪
Iced chocolate I’ve never been a fan of but sounds delicious with syrup, ice cream, whipped cream 😋
Soon probably all the coffee shops will be open and you can indulge in some good cold hot chocolate 😉
      Until then stay safe 😉

  2. I fit in with tea lovers except I’m a bit more introvert. But then again I used to be an extrovert before puberty. I’m going back to that lane soon 😂

  3. Well, I cannot say for sure I fit in any categorization you mentioned.
I drink coffee heavily, but I love tea for it’s aroma and taste. I also like both coffee and tea to be undiluted with milk or sugar (black form) which is not the case with a majority of both tea and coffee drinkers.
I am an introvert and I hate dogs. I love cats. I like music but don’t have any specific preference.. 😉
But anyways, it’s a great post..!! Both coffee and tea offer advantages and both should be consumed equally.. 🙂 Thank you Madam for sharing..!!

    1. Thank you for sharing! I do prefer my coffee or tea without milk or sugar 😉 to feel more its aroma 😉
Hate dogs? Really? I do like cats too, actually all animals…what I hate are spiders 🕷 🤪

      1. Even I like all animals, except dogs (I like pugs and St. Bernard though), pigeons (as they are filthy) and pests (they are pests for some reason).
Spiders 🕷 ?? OMG..!! They may look scary but they are so shy and scared of humans.. 😉 (Of course I didn’t mean tarantulas or black widows – they are dangerous)
And yes, you are right.. Having Tea or Coffee without milk and sugar allows the person to experience the mesmerizing aroma of those beverages.. 😉

      2. Any reason why not dogs? They are so cute, funny and lovely, a true friend! 🐶
Spiders may be scared but I’m more scared that they are 🤪

      3. Bad experiences. I have seen several dogs who are extremely disloyal and aggressive without reason. They are the cause of hundreds if not thousands of fatalities in India and globally. They are a real threat to elderly and children if they are unchained and not muzzled. They make puppy faces in one instant and become vicious the other.
Well, for spiders, I can give you a tip.. 😉 Try throwing a cloth over it and catch it gently keeping it covered. Then release that spider in your garden or outside your home.. 😉

      4. Understand…I’ve never had any issues with them and I love them but I’m sure and I’ve heard of fatalities! I do believe dogs behave how they are grown 🐶😊
Thank you for the tip but I’m way to scared to be able to even throw a cloth over them 🤪

      5. I can understand Madam.. ☺️🤗
Water sprays can also help against spiders.. 😉 try it if that’s applicable and if you aren’t scared of spraying water on spiders.. 😉

  4. I too prefer both 😊. The gifs that you presented for before coffee and after coffee is wonderful. It made me laugh. 😂😂 You explained the pros and cons of both drinks in a beautiful manner. That’s excellent Ribana. Have a great day.🤩❤️

  5. I am a tea lover😂😊 and I’m more of an introvert, I love cats and dog, and I listen to only latest Jazz and romance numbers, this theory may not fit in here 😂 But an informative post indeed! I don’t know why, But I like coffee but I don’t want to drink it regularly 😜😉😁 Have a fantastic day Ribanna!

    1. Hahaha…there’s always someone that don’t fit in this statistics 🤪🤪 and that’s the beauty 😉🤩
Thank you Simon for your time and for your support! I drink them both pretty regularly 🤪
Wish you a wonderful day Simon 🤩

      1. Yup😜 This statistics differs ☺️ but it helped you identify tea coffee lover’s in your blog 😉Have a beautiful day ✨💐

  6. I didn’t drink tea or coffee till I was 15 and Mum said I would be a social outcast! Since then I have loved tea, always tea when I get up, but coffee later on in the day. PS tea leaves in a tea pot with bone china mug.

    1. That’s the best way to drink tea 😉 I find it so different when is made with tea leaves instead of just a tea bag 🍵
A good quality coffee or tea is always the best 😉

  7. What 1000 years 😯. Tea with a specific flavour of ginger. 😊 The post is amazing. Love it. Coffee is love but I don’t like it when at home. 😁

    1. Tea with a specific flavour of ginger…🤔 must be delicious and aromatic 😉
Thank you for sharing Kritika! 🤩
I do love coffee and tea at home or outside, doesn’t matter 🤪
      Have a wonderful day 🌸

    1. Thank you very much Vihani for sharing 😉Boyfriends or husbands are always the best in cooking 😉💕
I’m glad you like it and you’ve enjoy reading them 😉🌸
Stay safe and have a wonderful day! 🌸☕️

  9. I drink coffee in the morning, and tea in the afternoon. Coffee with just a bit of white, and tea straight up or with a slice of lemon. I love deep, dark teas, but also light herbal teas, it all depends on my mood, and what my dog and cat are up to!

    1. Pretty much the same except the dog and cat for now 🤪 …but soon I hope I’ll add them to the family 😉🤪🐶 🐱 💕
I love my teas with a slice of lemon 🍋 It gives such a nice and fresh touch 😉

  10. Definitely Coffee!!! And I’m a Cat lover too and I used to be an introvert but no longer….I went to Coffee when I quit drinking any alcoholic beverage over 40 yrs. ago…..that was when Jesus delivered me from being a drunk; I have never wanted anything like that since PTL! Yup, Coffee for me; hot or cold. Love the question!

    1. Thank you very much for sharing! Coffee sometimes helps in unexpected ways too 😉 ☕️ I’m glad you’re ok 😊
I do prefer the hot coffee but who knows, maybe on a hot day a cold one is good too 😉
Thank you very much for stopping by! Wish you a wonderful day!

  11. Drink about a cup of coffee late morning but green and hot tea throughout the day. Get my energy kick from acupressure and walking, not coffee and tea.

  12. I start with tea at breakfast and have a coffee during the day but usually only one. I have tea at tea time ( usually around 4 pm). I am a dreadful tea purist and only like loose black tea: English breakfast at breakfast and Estate Darjeeling or a black Yunnan in the afternoon. I get my tea from a store in London and was panicked when I found that it had closed during the lockdown. So I went online and found a store out west in BC and ordered a few loose teas .They are excellent and my life is the better for it.

    1. Thank you very much for sharing Anne! Oh yes, loose teas are the best! Are so different from the bag teas….the taste is so much more intense! I always found English breakfast tea at little too strong for me but I love the clear green and white teas 😉
Luckily nowadays there are quite a few great options out there 😉

  13. One cup of coffee at breakfast and another cup later in the morning. Both black. Then I enjoy two cups of decaf green tea later in the evening. Must say I prefer coffee.

    1. Thank you very much for sharing! Very appreciated! Well I’ve found out people really prefers black coffee, and I’d have never thought 💭 🤪
That’s great! The taste is so much better 😉

  14. I enjoyed reading your post. My husband and I definitely are coffee lovers. I can’t imagine a day without a drink of coffee. Tea on the other hand for me is a relaxation drink after a hot shower in the evening while reading a good book in the bed..Ohhh! My favourite time of the day. 🙂 Thanks for following our blog too. Cheers for more amazing blog posts.

    1. Thank you very much for sharing! Oh yes, in the evening reading a good book in bed and a good cup of tea! That’s a favourite moment of the day indeed! 🤪 But sometimes the book is so good that will keep me up for quite a long time 🤪

  15. A great little Chatz post Ribana … l am predom a coffee drinker – it’s rare that l enjoy tea – out of every 10 cups l drink in comparison 10 Coffee/1 Tea l know that’s 11 cups, but there we go point proven = coffee all the way 🙂

  16. Amazing, I drink both and love ’em both!

I even wrote an extensive article about them ahah so you can imagine!

  17. Hi Ribana, late as usual, but here I am. Coffee for me in the morning, always! Tea in the afternoon or evening, but not regular tea, I prefer herbal tea, especially ones I make myself, mint, raspberry leaf, blueberry, pine needle. Have a great coffee day!😁😸☕☕

    1. Hi Steve, is never to late 😉 Thank you for stopping by! When I was little I always used to drink only teas harvested by us like mint, camomile, linden flowers and a lot of other herbs that we use to pick up! And I remember my grandma used to do this textile bags where she stored the different dry herbs…was so good 😉

      1. Yes, I so enjoy gathering my own to make herbal teas, but I will buy some too on occasion if I can get the right kind that isn’t blended with other things.😃😺☕

  18. Always coffee….But recently got to know that regular tea is more medicinal than regular coffee…so not drinkin much of coffee but black coffee is gud for health tho…but I luv coffee

    1. Thank you very much for sharing! Well, both have their beneficial properties so I guess a little bit of coffee and a little bit of tea doesn’t do any harm 😉 I do enjoy them both 😉

  19. I start with coffee in the morning and then gradually switch over to tea by mid-evening. How distressing to learn so many of teas benefits are cancelled out by adding milk. Or, at least, that is what I’ve read. Is it the same with coffee, I do not know, but I prefer plenty of milk in both.

    1. Thank you very much for sharing! I’m sure milk has it’s benefits too only that sometimes combining different ingredients they loose some of their benefits.

  20. I drink both as well, but I am definitely more in the coffee camp. I drink about a pot a day of coffee. When I drink tea, it’s usually a Yunan black tea variety or a rooibos blend. I’m not much into green tea or the new matcha craze.

  21. I’m a tea snob I think! I have never really liked coffee much and tea just feels so much more comforting!

  22. Coffee, always coffee in the morning. I did not have any coffee for almost the entire day on Sunday and I was not able to wake up throughout the entire day. It was a lost day. No coffee, no day! 🙂
