Take fluids to fight dehydration

First of all, it is essential to take a lot of fluids to replenish those lost through sweating, especially if we have fever, in order to help the body get rid of the flu viruses.

Therefore, it is necessary to drink a lot of water or green tea which is rich in antioxidants, or even a good juice of citrus fruits and fresh fruit smoothies, fill up on vitamins.

Countering dehydration is also very important when vomiting and diarrhea are among the flu symptoms.

To restore the health of the stomach, you can use a good vegetable or chicken broth which, in addition to providing our body with many nutrients and minerals, also helps to restore the appetite that often in these cases may be lacking.

For example, the cream of artichokes and leeks is excellent for purifying the liver and the whole organism during the flu period.

Are you tired of the flu? Protein can help you

In addition to these lighter foods, we must also supply the body with more substantial nutrients such as proteins, in fact, according to the Food and Drug Administration, our daily protein requirement to keep in force is about 50 grams per day.

However, to counter the flu, better opt for lean meat, white meat, poultry or fish.

Lemon chicken fillets are the right compromise for a light but still flavourful second course.

These foods, in fact, compared to red meat, are still rich in proteins, amino acids and iron but have less fat and are more easily chewable and digestible, in this way we provide our body with the necessary energy, without however tiring the body.

Honey, an anti-flu bomb

If the cough afflicts us night and day we can rely on the classic honey, which is our great ally against the flu. A teaspoon of honey taken alone without drinking liquids for a few minutes forms a sort of “film” that calms the cough and eases the burning and irritation of the throat. Or you can prepare a herbal tea, a glass of milk or a hot tea and sweeten it with honey, to soothe the sore throat.

Have you ever heard of ManuKa honey? It has powerful antibiotic properties and is a real cure-all for the health of the body especially during periods of flu and greater stress.

Vitamin B strengthens the immune system

Vitamins are very important in our diet, especially when the body is weakened by the ailments of the winter season.

To keep the immune system healthy and strong, the vitamins B are fundamental, especially B6 and B12. Vitamin B6 is present in many foods but among the most suitable ones in case of flu we can eat whole wheat bread, fish, poultry, lentils, spinach and bananas. The same goes for vitamin B12 that we find in different foods including cereals, tuna, milk and derivatives.

So let yourself be guided by your imagination in the kitchen to combine these healthy and essential foods to fight the nasty flu and get back on your feet.

Love, R

  2. Great advice! I love using essential oils such as eucalyptus and peppermint due to their antiviral and antibacterial properties. Putting several drops in a diffuser really cleanses the air and makes it easier to breathe.
