The art of entertaining

Hello my dear readers,

How are you today? I hope everything is fine so far but if it’s not fine, get a deep breath, open your mind, put some positivity in it, smile and then you’re ready to move on! I know it sounds difficult, but believe me, is always depending on us, on how we see it.

I have one question for you today. Do you like to entertain?

I have heard a lot of people when buying a home, they say perfect to entertain! or no, to small to entertain…like the most important thing when buying a home is the space to entertain!

Honestly, I do like to entertain even if my apartment is small. I guess the atmosphere is most important not the space! You can have fun and eat in style even when you don’t have that perfect patio or huge kitchen or dining room for your guests.

What is important though is how you set the table! Did you know that at the table, dinnerware is the first item that meets the diners’ eyes?

Let’s see how to set the table for a casual, informal dinner.

I know this was used to be common knowledge some years back, but in today’s fast and busy world, knowing how to set a table is somehow overlooked. Or even if we know how to do it, we consider it is not necessary. I remember one time I had an Asian guest back home in Italy, and he was very impressed that the table was perfectly set for lunch even if was a casual lunch at home. I always set the table even when I’m eating alone. What? I don’t deserve it? I surely do! And so do you!

You don’t need a “special occasion” to treat you, your loved ones or your guests well. You don’t need a “special occasion” to place a tablecloth, a plate, a napkin, a fork, a knife and a glass on your table. Yes, this is a casual, informal dinner setting table! A tablecloth, a plate, a napkin, a glass, a fork, a knife, and a spoon if you’re a soup lover too! But that’s it! Is that too much? Nope! Is that simple!

Every day, every meal is a special occasion that we should enjoy! Treat yourself and your loved ones well! Be grateful! It is very simple!

You are not too good in the kitchen? Me either! But don’t worry! Food is very simple! Just listen to it! Keep it always simple! Simple ingredients, simple processes and the result is amazing! And with a simple finishing touch of a stunning tableware, your simple meal will become an experience to remember!

  1. I love to entertain. I feel as if I am spoilt in general, I am usually the guest at someone else’s home. But I love to cook and make a naughty dessert and invite my friends over. Only it’s better when my landlord’s away – that way we can all make more noise.

    1. 😉 Being a guest is always awesome 😎 And I’m sure your friends appreciate that naughty dessert 🧁 🍮 🍨 😉 Is always better when the landlord is not around 😉

  2. It has been my experience that everyone says they want to entertain, but what they often mean is that they want to experience the event that someone else hosts! I calculate that there are about four our five people who are (helpful and charming) Guests to one who is Host. It’s just the way it is!

    1. I guess in the end is all about spending quality time in good company 😉 If you are a guest or a host, doesn’t really matte 😉 Important is the time spent together 😉

  3. I don’t care for entertaining, but I love using pretty dishes. I’ve purchased single place settings that have caught my eye. I think I have enough to serve 16 guests, all on different settings. 😀

  4. Though, I’m not much of a kitchen person, I always make a point of table presentation. Not only it makes the dinner fun, it encourage my family to start eating happy. Entertainment is limited to occasional music because talking to each other face to face is most valuable. Great post Ribby <3

    1. I completely agree dear Jess! The way of presenting the food of our loved ones it encourages them to start eating happy 🙂 And yes, also in my case, we prefer no music when we eat so that we can share our daily experiences 🙂 Thank you dear Jess! I’m glad you like it! Wish you a lovely week! ❤❤

  5. I agree wholeheartedly . I have coffee cups for my mornings , Beer and wine glasses for my evening’s and different style plate mats etc. I find this so important for me and i think that’s the important part . Very good article .

  6. Hey Ribanna! Such an interesting topic. Especially for foos lovers. They honestly care nothing about preparing a table before their food. I use to keep my dining table neat and arranged, back when i was a kid. Sweet memories indeed. But as you said it is as simple as that. All we need is a little more care and an enthusiastic attitude towards food. For people like me to eat small small meals 5 times a day it is quiet hard to think about table. But if you are one of the regular people who loves food and enjoy it, i would say its as simple as that. Have a good day! Wish yoi an awesome Monday Ribanna 😄😃✨🤗

    1. Hi Simon, for me I guess food is something that bring people together and makes them enjoy the daily life. Especially in the evening, I enjoy sitting at the table with my husband and share our day’s experiences, enjoying good food in style 🙂 Yes, for us is as simple as that 🙂 I guess what is always important is to enjoy it 🙂 Thank you Simon for stopping by and for your time! Have a wonderful week 🙂

      1. You’re welcome! I have the same dilemma when we were moving. My husband was shocked that I accumulated a lot. 😂😂
