Discovering our world: Gānsù, China

Hello my dear readers,

Maybe some of you are in holiday, lucky you, and some of us are still in the office, not so lucky 🤪 However, I hope your week is going smooth no matter where you are.

Now that we know that the first place in the world that produces watermelon is Gānsù, in China, let’s discover a little bit more about it.

Beside Beijing and Shanghai, China is somewhat poorly known, but places like the Rainbow mountains, also known as Zhangye Danxia Landform Geological Park, or Magao Grottoes, Jiāyùguān Fort, located in Gānsù province, are well worth to see them.

Gansu is a province in north-central China, with a population of 23.7 million. This region has a multinational population which includes ethnic minority groups of Kazak, Mongolian, Tibetan, Hui, Dongxiang, Tu and Manchu. They mutually influence each other in the fields of economics, politics and culture and hold close ties with the Han people and they have developed a unique cultural community. Lanzhou, a well-known ancient city in China, is the capital of Gānsù.

With a long history and brilliant cultures, Gānsù is characterised by plenty of cultural relics and natural scenery. Endless desert and pure glacial landscape present an impressive and breath-taking scenery before your eyes. For example the world-famous Mogao Grottoes, which is the largest and most well-preserved Buddhist art palace and also a post along the ancient Silk Road; the grand Jiayuguan Pass, is an important outpost in ancient China, is the western end of the Great Wall; the Labrang Monastery in Xiahe is one of the largest Tibetan Buddhist resorts in China while the Bingling Temple in Lanzhou is a treasure trove of Han Buddhism. All of these are well worth points of interest for your tour.

The annual average temperature is about 0C to 15C. The lowest temperature are in January and is approximately -14C to 3C and the highest temperature is in July between 22C and 25C. With plenty of rain, you would better take an umbrella along with you. However, despite the changeful weather, your sightseeing visit from May to October would be uninterrupted.

Typical Cuisine in Gansu_Popsicle Society

Well, I hope you like Chinese food, as you’ll not have many options for western food 😉 It seems that the top choice in Gānsù province are spicy hand-pulled noodles, and hotpots are also very common. You get a pot of broth in which you can add sliced mutton, beef or pork, greens and various other dishes. But to not forget also the nigh markets, where you’ll find all manner of open-air stalls and restaurants serving barbecue and local specialities.

Ok, hungry? This guy below is teaching us a new way of eating 😉 Not too bad eh? 🤪

Join me next time and let’s enjoy a refreshing watermelon cocktail 🍹

Thank you all for reading 🙂

      2. It happens often to me to laugh at myself, at how I react to certain things 🙂 Luckily it was on the last day 🙂 and I’m glad you’re ok! Don’t be too harsh with the diet 🙂 Eat a little bit of everything! This is my forever diet 🙂

  4. I’m from the unlucky ones hahhah but I got to go on vacation so no nagging for me 😂 But anyway I also rather to be there! 😊💕
Gansu, a totally new name for me, only read it in your previous post and anyway China is underrated I guess, here we say China just to refer to cheap items and low cost production and industries and so…which is unfair of course I mean look at all this beauty! And 23.7 million for a province! I mean we are an entire country and we’re 4.5 million haha
Seems a great history and lot of places to visit in addition to the beautiful scenery as well 😊 this Mogao Grottoes is really a piece of art!
for the accommodation, what matters the most for me is to be clean and the location but look at these temperature degrees! I’m freezing already 😂😂 will try to go when it’s 25 c which is the highest 😄😄
Chinese food in not one of my favorite but I don’t know if what we eat here is a real Chinese food but still not bad! Loved this cute kid 😄😄 great use for Watermelon! And what a method to eat 😂😂 I would suffocate I guess and die!
Looking forward for the refreshing watermelon cocktail I’m sure it will be so tasty refreshing watermelon cocktail 😄😄
Great post, very well made and written and very useful as always dear Riby 😊😊
This world is so big! And your posts are making it smaller 😊😊
    enjoy your afternoon 🤗🤗🤗🧸🧸🧸💕💕💕

    1. Thank you dear Koko for your time and for your beautiful words and support 🤗🤗🤗 It really means a lot! 🧸🧸🧸
Yes, I guess everywhere in the world, China is seen just as a place of cheap things but it is so much more! It has a great history and so many beautiful places to see! Nature is wonderful too! Amazing landscapes! Really a beautiful country and highly populated in some places 🤪
I was well impressed when I was travelling to China! 😉
Yes, also for me, important is the accommodation to be clean! 😉
A little bit cold also for my taste but I guess with all these beautiful things to see is worth it 🤪🤪
I remember the Chinese food that we used to eat in Italy…it has nothing to do with the real Chinese food 🤪🤪
Here I am nearby but still some Chinese will say is not the original taste! As we say for Italian food or you for Lebanese food 😉
Not a very big fan either, but sometimes is ok, especially when visiting the country, I always like to try the local food 😉
Yes, the kid is very cute 😉
This guy eating is awesome! I guess he’s really hungry 😋 🤪🤪
Soon will come the watermelon cocktail 🍹 😉
Really I thank you very much for all the time spent and for all your wonderful words! I’m so grateful! Thank you!
Hope your day is better today! Wish you a wonderful afternoon too 🤗🤗🤗💕💕💕💕🧸🧸🧸🧸🧸

      1. Always a great pleasure dear Riby and reading your content is an addition to our knowledge 😊
I’m sure you were impressed, lot of beauty and history there! And one can take a bit of cold for some time for the sake of great vacation 😁😁
This food thing is everywhere in the world, I always say that you must eat the food from its origin place and I always like to try the local food wherever I go 😊
Great pleasure always and my day was much better thank you 😊 hope your Thursday will be great especially that weekend is so near 😁😁😁
        🤗🤗🤗💕💕💕🧸🧸🧸🧸🧸🥂🥂🥂🥂

      2. I’m glad you see it that way 😊 thank you for your support always! 🤗🤗🤗
Yes, even if it’s cold, just a few days are ok 😉 I guess is a great experience!
Very true! To really understand food you need to eat it at origin 😊 You know a funny fact? So many Italian dishes known and loved around the world, don’t have anything to do with Italian cuisine…🤪🤪🤪 such as macaroni cheese, or pasta with tomatoes and meatballs or carbonara made with cream 🤪🤪 are only a few…🤪 and then, when you give them really Italian food they say what’s this? Is not good…pasta is not cooked…🤪🤪😂😂😂 So I guess this is applicable to all kind of cuisines 🤪🤪🤪
I’m glad your day was better! Almost weekend 🤪🤗🤗🤗🌸🌸🌸💕💕💕💕🧸🧸🧸🧸🧸

      3. 🤗🤗🤗
Oh this is so true! I feel I will be chocked when I taste real Italian food despite how good the restaurants here but still I’m sure it’s different in Italy and I heard many times that pasta shouldn’t be so well cooked actually (al dente right???) haha so yes I know what you mean and as you said it applies to all kind of cuisines!
Hope your Thursday is great and yes almost weekend yayyyy 😀
        Have a great day 🤗🤗🤗🌸🌸🌸💕💕💕💕🧸🧸🧸🧸🧸

      4. Yep, al dente 🙂 No overcooked pasta is Italian pasta 🙂
        So far, so good 😀
        Another few more hours 🙂
Yours just started! Have a wonderful, happy and easy day 🤗🤗🤗💕💕💕🧸🧸🧸🧸

      5. yes it’s 10:30 AM only 🙂 Thank you for the lovely wishes and have a great and happy day as well 🤗🤗🤗💕💕💕🧸🧸🧸🧸

  5. Ribana very informative and wonderful post about China! The region of Gansu’s population is 23.7million so its crowded!😊 Here Chinese items get cheap rate I think because of low cost work! Hm you enjoyed the beautiful places and nature!😍 Largest producer of watermelon that is great! I would like to eat!😊
And the Chinese food always gets here, some places we can get more tasty but the original taste I don’t know what is really!🤔
-° are always cold but the -15 that is freeze! 🌧
    That pics and gif👌
Thank you for sharing this great post!💙
